Bernardaud Limoges France Ceramic Lithophane Fairy Light 3D Flower Garden Effect

This white bisque porcelain fairy light was made by Bernardaud of Limoges, France. When not lit the outside appears to have a heavy, abstract texture. With a lit candle inside the lithophane effect reveals an abundant flower garden. It measures 3 inches tall and 4.25 inches in diameter.

A lithophane is made of thin, translucent material, normally porcelain, which has been moulded to varying thickness, such that when lit from behind the different thicknesses show as different shades, forming an image. Only when lit from behind does the image display properly.[

Bisque porcelain has been fired once at 900° and a second time at 1400°, like classic porcelain but without the enameling step. It therefore has all the qualities of porcelain: hardness, fineness, whiteness, but a matte finish.

This pre-owned fairly light is in excellent condition with no damage or wear.
