The Mississippi state quarter is a circulating commemorative coin issued
by the United States Mint in 2002 as part of the 50 State Quarters
Program.
The design features two magnolia blossoms, the state flower of
Mississippi, with the inscription "The Magnolia State." In the
background is a depiction of a musical theme, representing the state's
rich musical heritage.
The reverse of the coin features the familiar
image of George Washington, the first President of the United States,
along with the inscriptions "United States of America," "Quarter
Dollar," and "E Pluribus Unum." The 50 State Quarters Program was a
ten-year initiative by the U.S. Mint to issue a quarter representing
each of the 50 states in the order in which they ratified the
Constitution or were admitted to the Union.
